Danish watch writer, author and co-founder of Daily watch Kristian is a leading Scandinavian watch specialist.

1. Describe briefly your childhood.

Very playful. Spent a lot of time in the neighbouring forest. Playing with kids from the nearby streets. Happy childhood indeed.

2. As a child did you have any driving ambition?

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I helped the local vet for four years and thought I should go in that direction. My allergy to cats was not very motivating though.

3. What is your first significant memory as a child?

Flipping through National Geographic. My family had issues dating back to the first years of the 20th century. The stories inside showed me the world and it had a great impact on my earliest memories.

4. Have you ever had another profession?

I worked as an Art Director for more than 20 years. In London, Barcelona, Los Angeles and Copenhagen.

5. What made you decide to go in the direction you are currently in?

I sold a small ad agency and had a six months garden leave. Decided to concentrate on watch writing. Had already published a book on the subject in 2001, so it came naturally. I am currently finishing my eighth book on watches, so I am pretty sure I made a wise decision back in 2005.

6. What’s the worst job you’ve had to do?

-

7. What’s been the hardest moment in your life so far, and how did you overcome it?

When my dad died in 2016. I have not yet overcome the loss of him.

8. Who has had the strongest influence on you?

My dad was a great inspiration. He had a wonderfully light-hearted approach to life. Took it as it came. It wasn’t stress that killed him.

9. What are you most proud of?

My kids. They are the best! And my teeth. I have very healthy teeth.

10. What advice would you give to a 20 something someone thinking of taking a similar path as you?

Never feel tempted to buy a $10 sausage. Ever.

11. Name three things on your bucket list.

Finish the renovation of my Series 2A Land Rover from 1967.

Get a house with an ocean view in Malibu.

And make Urban Jürgensen one of the most coveted watch brands.

12. Where do you think the watch industry is going to be in 10 years time?

Stronger than ever. But with fewer brands around.
